Our chapter & history
|
Sigma Phi Epsilon – IA Delta consists of 106 men dedicated to the values of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. We are currently 1st in GPA amongst fraternities on the street (3.43). We are also the ’14 – ‘15 winners of the Voltmer Cup, awarded to the Fraternity winning the most intramural competitions, as well as ’14 – ’15 Chapter of the year among Fraternities on Campus.
In 2015, we raised $23,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Iowa. Deb Bishop, our faculty fellow, has always been and continues to be a valuable advisor to the chapter and strives to help us grow throughout our college fraternal experience. Our chapter has won the Buchanan Outstanding Chapter Award seven times ('03, '05, '07, '09, '11, '15, '17) recognizing the best-of-the-best Sigma Phi Epsilon chapters. We are a Residential Learning Community (RLC), providing a library study space and enabling us as an undergraduate chapter to complement our academic studies. Our members also live in a dry house, prohibiting the consumption and storage of alcohol. Until he stepped down in 2017, our Alumni-Volunteer Corporation was headed by president Gary D. Ordway, SigEp - IA Delta '66. In 2017, he was awarded The Order of the Golden Heart, the highest honor of the national fraternity. Sigma Phi Epsilon – IA Delta continuously has a strong influence on campus, with brothers holding leadership roles in organizations like Student Senate, RHA, Student Ambassadors, PMACs, Orientation Leaders, SAA, SASA, IFC, professional fraternities, DECA, DASS, and The Times-Delphic. We have a variety of social events every semester, from themed crush parties and exchanges with sororities, to formals. We organize brotherhood activities as well - going to Iowa Cubs games, paint balling, pick-up basketball at the Bell Center, poker nights, and annual Super Bowl and March Madness watch-parties at the house. |
