We completely understand that, as a new student, the greek system and its recruitment methods may seem bizarre and unfamiliar. The following is a brief attempt to clarify some frequently asked questions. Please contact our Vice President of Recruitment with any further questions!
How can I become a part of SigEp?
Please feel absolutely free to express any questions or interests to our Vice President of Recruitment Josh Janes ([email protected]). Also, rush events at the beginning of each semester are a great way to meet the brothers and learn about the fraternity.
Will I be hazed?
No! SigEp is a non-hazing fraternity! Methods such as the Balanced Man Program have been instilled to ensure that our fraternity builds on your character, rather than breaking you down. As a new member you are immediately an active member, and can attending chapter meetings and voting.
How can I tell my parents?
We understand that there are a multitude of negative stereotypes surrounding the American college fraternity system and we are happy to let any parents know what we are doing to change these. We would be more than happy to talk to your parents about Sigep!
What is "Rush"?
"Rush" is a one week period in the beginning of each semester when students looking to go greek are given the opportunity to tour all of the different fraternities on campus. It is the university's method of formal recruitment, at the end of which "bids" are handed out.
What is a "Bid"?
A "bid" is the greek system's way of inviting a potential new member to join their fraternity. If given a bid by a fraternity, you have the official option to join that fraternity.
